Huge Elk Creek Douglas fir powers out of the sword ferns. The Wilderness Committee dubbed this spectacular forest as "Chilliwack's Catherdral Grove". Unfortunatly, by late 2003 the BC Forest Service had allowed a logging company to start cutting down the smaller trees around the giant firs. A huge protest ensued - but the trees kept falling. The good news is that most of the ancient forest in the Elk Creek rainforest, though still unprotected, remains unlogged to this day and the Wilderness Committee continues to seek protection.
