On New Years Day 2003 members of the Wilderness Committee and the Blue Mountain Kanaka Creek Conservation Group gathered at Golden Ears Provincial Park to hand out free cups of hot chocolate and to gather names on a petition opposing logging plans for Blue Mountain opposite to the Golden Ears Park picnic site. The logging to this day (2009) has never occured - and the forest is still standing. Blue Mountain, however lacks any kind of legislative protection.
