2009 - Sign of the times

Written in pencil, in the centre of the big O in NO National Park were the words, "Why not?" presumably by a National Park supporter. Good question! After all the vast majority of people living in the Okanagan think a National Park there would be a great thing and whole heartedly support the idea. A National Park would help ensure that ongoing rampant development would not further fragment and destroy the area's remaining wildlife habitat and grasslands. A National Park would provide a rare example of BC grasslands in their natural form, not grazed by cows, so we could all see the full range of plants and animals once present in abundance. And a National Park would form an anchor point for a sustainable mixed and resilient Oknagan economy. Why not indeed!
