Stand up and stop the Raven Coal Mine

Over the past few weeks we have sent a clear message to Compliance Energy and the Provincial and Federal Environmental Offices: No Raven Coal, No new dirty coal mining.

Amidst playoff games, sunny weather and summer festivals, we filled three community halls during the first week of June with hundreds of people who oppose the Raven Coal Mine and want to stand up for their communities. We have already generated hundreds of comments for the provincial environmental record. With your help, we hope to generate many more comments in the remaining two weeks -- please go to our letter writing tool and help us reach our goal of 2,000 comments!

In a world faced with global health, food and water crises, we cannot afford to continue to burn fossil fuels such as coal. The devastating ecological, economic and social impacts of coal mining are well documented globally, and would have long-lasting impacts on the Comox and Alberni Valleys. Especially coming off the warmest year on record, we cannot allow Compliance Energy to add over 52 million tonnes of climate-change causing greenhouse gases to our atmosphere.

Next week, on Wednesday June 22nd, we have an opportunity to further demonstrate our opposition to the Raven Coal Mine at Compliance Energy’s Annual General Meeting in Vancouver. The Wilderness Committee will hold an action outside of Compliance’s headquarters during their AGM, to show our power as citizens and deliver a present to the company, representing the impacts of coal mining on coastal communities.

The action will take place from 12pm to 1pm at 800 West Pender Street (Corner of Pender and Howe) in downtown Vancouver.

For more information on how to get involved and help with the planning of the action, please contact cam@wildernesscommittee.org or (250) 388-9292.

For those that are not able to attend the action, please do not forget to submit your comment through our letter-writing tool and share our Call to Action before June 27th.
It's been inspiring to see the incredibly broad and diverse opposition to Raven Coal. Together, we can stop this project.

For a better world,
