The Wilderness Committee is heading out into the wilderness again this Spring and Summer and is looking for volunteers to join their trail and community farm projects.

This is a great opportunity to get out into amazing wild places in BC, meet like-minded people and help the Wilderness Committee protect threatened wilderness.

We are looking for volunteers with all different abilities and skills but all with a sense of adventure. Please contact Stephanie, our volunteer coordinator if you need more information and would like to join any of these trips at stephanie@wildernesscommittee.org or call during office hours 604.683.8220

June 18- 20 - Seton Portage Community Farm
Volunteers are needed to come and help out at the Seton Portage Community Farm. We will be leaving on Friday and coming back on Sunday evening.

June 25- 29 - Meares Island Big Tree Trail Trip
On Meares Island, just a short boat trip away from Tofino in Clayoquot Sound, is a trail that takes you to some truly giant trees. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the trail and boardwalk. Everyone will need to bring camping gear and food for five days. A great experience to be had!

July 3-18 - Clayoquot River Valley Trail Maintenance Trip

We are needing quite experienced back country volunteers for this long trip. In the past 3 years, Wilderness Committee volunteers have cleared about 20 km of hiking trails in the Clayoquot River Valley. The trips to this area are tough and one has to be very prepared with suitable camping/hiking gear as well as being prepared for rain. Rubber rain gear works better in this climate, however the trips to this amazing place will be well worth it to the intrepid traveler. There is also a trip going out at the same time that will be 5 days long for people who don't have so much experience. This trip will consist of people camping at the base camp and working on a side trail in day trips.

July 31-August 2 - BC Day Family Campout at Ch’uuis Beach on Kennedy Lake in Clayoquot Sound
Join the Wilderness Committee for our annual BC Day Campout - a fun weekend of camping, hiking and swimming at the Kennedy Lake Narrows in Clayoquot Sound.

August 6-14, 14-21, 21-28, and August 28-September 6 - Clayouquot River Valley Trips.

The Wilderness Committee will be heading back to the Clayoquot River Valley to continue clearing the hiking trail. Volunteers have the option of working for one week or more. If you decide to work continuously on the trail for more than one week, extra food and supplies will be hiked in to meet you at the camp. As above, volunteers will need to be well-prepared but it is a chance of a lifetime to spend some time in the ancient rain forests of Clayoquot Sound

August 6-8 - N'Quatqua/Lost Valley Trail Maintenance Trip

Volunteers have been working on a trail that links the town of N'Quatqua with Lost Valley. More work is needed on the trail. Volunteers will need to be prepared to hike some hills with their gear but the views will be worth it.

Please let me know if you are interested in joining any of these expeditions or if you have any questions. Summer's coming and its time to get outside.
