Wilderness Committee welcomes new Victoria outreach coordinator

The Wilderness Committee is pleased to officially welcome our newest addition to the Victoria Office. Tria Donaldson has joined as the Wilderness Committee's Vancouver Island Public Outreach Coordinator.

"I am very excited to be working at the Wilderness Committee," said Donaldson. "Over the next couple of months we will be gearing up to protect wilderness on Vancouver Island from logging, coal mines, fish farms and the private power grab for our rivers.

Tria brings many years of experience working on climate justice and the environment. She has worked for a number of organizations, including the Sierra Youth Coalition, the Canadian Youth Coalition and the BC Government and Services Employees Union. Tria is one of the co-founders of goBeyond, a youth-led climate project that works with 12 post-secondary institutions in BC, and served as Project Director for 8 months. She currently sits on boards of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and the Sierra Club of BC Foundation.

"There are a lot of really special wild spaces and creatures on Canada’s West Coast. We think that Tria’s ability to reach out to many people will help give wild nature here a fighting chance. We are so happy that she’s decided to join our organization," said Joe Foy, Wilderness Committee National Campaign Director. “Over the next couple of months our Victoria office will be working with our membership on events, open houses and wilderness excursions as we continue to fire up our campaigns.”

Tria was one of the organizers of Power Shift Canada, Canada's largest youth conference on climate. A 3-day gathering in Ottawa, it brought over 1,000 youth together in October for activist training, networking and direct communication with elected representatives. In recent months Tria traveled to Copenhagen with the Canadian Youth Delegation for the international climate conference.

"Every day decisions are being made that will determine the what kind of world we will pass on to future generations,” said Donaldson. “I am committed to do everything I can to ensure that they inherit a world has wild rivers, clean air and big trees.”
