We are in a critical moment in the fight against climate change in BC. The Raven Coal Mine proposal is in public comment period for the environmental assessment. There is no better time than now for us to stand up against this destructive project.
This project would add 80 million tonnes of carbon emissions into the atmosphere, pollute ground water, destroy salmon bearing streams, and add six trucks an hour every hour of the year on the busy road to Port Alberni. The Raven Mine is the just the first proposal in a wave of new coal mining proposals across the province.
If we stop the Raven Coal Mine, we can turn that tide around.
Thanks to the work of friends and supporters like you, we are closer than ever to delivering the knockout punch to the Raven Coal Mine. Over 1500 people packed rooms in Courtenay, Port Alberni and Union Bay last week to show their opposition to this project. Out of the 220 speakers at those meetings, only one lone person spoke in favour of the mine.
We need your help to send a loud message to the provincial and federal governments. We need them to know that coal mines are the wrong choice for the 21st Century.
We have set a goal of submitting over 3,000 public comments. Please write your comment today, and forward this message to your friends, neighbours and co-workers and ask them to do the same.
Together we can make a stand against dirty coal. Together we can stand up for clean water, livable communities, and a healthy climate.
