The Nanoose Forest needs your help Now!

It is the goal of the Wilderness Committee to see our provincial government legislatively end the logging of old-growth forests province wide.  But as we work on the big-picture campaign to stop old-growth logging throughout BC, we still can't forget the village-to-village fight to save local “hometown forests” from chainsaws.

One such fight is happening right now on the southeast shore of Vancouver Island, just up the Island Highway from Nanaimo. The Nanoose Forest, referred to as DL33 by the BC Forest Service is under threat of being logged down at any moment.

Old-growth giant firs are scattered through this little forest, which harbours a host of endangered plants and animals. Because of past over-logging, this type of eastern Vancouver Island forest is extremely rare.

If there was anywhere where the logging of forests containing old-growth trees should be banned, it is here. As you can see from the news article, BC’s Forests Minister is about to make a decision as to whether he will allow this forest to be logged or protected. Please write the Forest Minister right now and tell him how strongly you feel about protecting this special rare and endangered forest.
