1995 Clearcut logging ends in Clayoquot TV news story

Friday, May 12, 1995 (All day)

This is a short 1995 TV news story about the BC government appointed science panel's recomendation to end clearcut logging in Clayoquot Sound.

The BC government did follow this recomendation, restricting the size of forest openings that could be cut down in Clayoquot Sound, which is an improvment. The Wilderness Committee called for a ban on clearcutting throughout BC. Today however, clearcutting continues in most BC forests, with the exception of Clayoquot Sound - and talks are ongoing over ending clearcut logging in the Great Bear Rainforest on BC's mid coast. Environmentalists today are still defending the intact valleys of Clayoquot Sound from any type of logging what-so-ever.
