Supporting Healthy Communities

Clean air, clean water, an abundant and healthy food supply, and climate-friendly local economies don’t happen by accident. They are the result of careful planning. Unfortunately, instead of good planning, proposals for urban freeways and other initiatives that would negatively impact community and environmental health are far too common.

Canada's Tar Sands

Canada’s tar sands are the fastest-growing source of greenhouse gas emissions in Canada, and threaten an area of boreal forest the size of Florida. We need real action to fight pollution and the climate crisis. It’s time for our governments to clean up or shut down the tar sands.

Coal Mining in BC

Most Canadians are not aware that coal mining is rapidly expanding in Canada. This extremely problematic industry can and must be stopped.  Coal has been known as a dirty fuel for generations.  Burning coal contributes significantly to poor air quality, and can have serious health impacts in the communities next to coal mines or coal fired power plants.

Stop Gateway

The Gateway Project is a plan to expand Canada's currently un-sustainable trade with the Asia Pacific region. The project may well be the most harmful transportation infrastructure plan in the history of our province, if not our country.

The Climate Crisis

Climate change is already having a profound impact on our environment, our economy, and our society, and the impact is growing. It’s time to end our dependence on fossil fuels and build a climate-friendly world. Together, we can grow the movement that makes better transportation, food supply and energy solutions a reality.

Toxins
In North America there are over 85,000 chemicals in use, many of them found in common household products.  These chemicals threaten endangered wildlife such as the Orca whale, as well as human health. The Wilderness Committee is helping to build a grassroots movement to turn back the tide of toxins flooding our communities.
