Write Wild - Boreal Forest

Thanks so much for agreeing to write a letter on behalf of Boreal birds! Let your Premier know how strongly you feel about the dire situation of plummeting bird populations, and ask what they intend to do about it.

  • The Wilderness Committee wants protection to be prioritized initially in areas in the "Bird Nursery Conservation Area" that are of greatest importance to birds and that face the greatest development threats.
  • Many boreal bird populations are decreasing at a high rate. Scientists do not yet know exactly how many bird species are in trouble but preliminary research shows that at least 40 species have decreased between 25% and 90% in recent years.
  • 1,500 Scientists and 60,000 citizens have signed petitions asking provincial and national governments to protect 50% of Canada's boreal forest. Ontario and Quebec governments have already agreed.
