Rally for Old-Growth Forests in Courtenay
The ancient coastal temperate rainforest is now reduced to less than 3% of its original extent. At least 500 soccer fields of irreplaceable big tree habitat are logged every day, 34 of them on Vancouver Island.
On this anniversary of the commencement of Greta Thunberg’s climate strike in 2018, the Comox Valley Save Our Forests Team stands in solidarity with Nanaimo’s hunger strikers and the citizens blocking the construction of a logging road in the unlogged Fairy Creek watershed (San Juan Standing River system).
A recent Sierra Club poll found 92% of British Columbians want protection for endangered old-growth forests. Come and stand in solidarity with the citizens all over BC who are calling for a moratorium on old-growth logging.
We will rally for 45 minutes to an hour, and then walk down 5th Street to Cliffe Avenue.
