Update from the Tree Top Resistance and the Holmes Creek Protectors Camp
Protect the Planet – Stop TMX! Hosted by Climate Convergence Metro Vancouver
On August 3rd Simon Fraser University health sciences professor Dr. Tim Takaro raised himself 75 feet off the ground into a hanging tent suspended where Holmes Creek meets the Brunette River in New Westminster. He remained in the tree camp until 10 days later Kurtis Baute – a well known environmental scientist, took over. Meanwhile, the Holmes Creek Protectors Camps has provided around the clock support for the tree camp.
Two weeks in – they are still firmly in place.
Why is this tree top protest taking place?
The Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion (TMX) Pipeline current construction schedule requires they log trees the area before September 15, when the already sensitive salmon habitat becomes even more precarious. The plan is to force Trans Mountain to miss this deadline – further delaying construction of this unnecessary and dangerous Tar Sands pipeline – as we continue to work together to build a movement to cancel the TMX pipeline altogether!
