1998 06 25 Great Bear Rainforest CMTs

Thursday, June 25, 1998

This is a video about a joint Heiltsuk First Nation & Wilderness Committee research expedition to document and learn about Culturally Modified Trees or CMTs in Heiltsuk territory near Bella Bella BC. The Wilderness Committee conducted this joint expedition as part of our contribution to efforts to protect the ancient forests of the Great Bear Rainforest on BC's mid coast. CMTs are trees that show evidence of past resource harvesting. Trees may bear the scars of bark harvesting, or plank splitting. These scars may persist for centuries.
