Almost 150 people to 'Get on the Bus' to help stop sprawl in the Juan de Fuca
Victoria -- Over 100 people are getting on buses today bound for the public hearing on the proposed bylaw changes that would allow a 260 vacation home development in the middle of the Juan de Fuca forest lands -- just metres from the Juan de Fuca Trail. Three buses and a fleet of car share vehicles are bringing interested citizens out to the meeting, which is taking place at 6218 Sooke Road, Edward Milne School. There will also be a BBQ hosted by local residents and the Muir Creek Protection Society.
The proposed Marine Trail Holding resort development has been met with huge public opposition from locals and right across the Capital Regional District (CRD). The CRD has moved the process forward, and the proposed by law changes are open to public comment at the public meeting tonight and tomorrow.
Buses are leaving from UVIC and downtown.
UVIC: pick up is in front of Felicitias Pub, at the Student Union Building at 2:45. Buses will leave promptly at 3:00
Downtown: pick up is on the Pandora Side of Centennial Square at 3:00. Buses will leave promptly at 3:15
There will be an opportunity for taking photos and video roll available .
Buses are being coordinated by Wilderness Committee, Dogwood Initiative, the UVIC Student Society, the UVIC Sustainability Project, the Forest Action Network and Sierra Club BC. The BBQ and rally will start at 4:00 and is hosted by Muir Creek Protection Society.
