Area needs “protection” with a National Park, says reader
Keremeos Review
To The Editor:
There are many local residents still working towards a South Okanagan – Similkameen National Park to protect our fragile ecosystems and bring economic benefits to our community. Letters such as written to the Oliver Chronicle, last week, which indicated the need to gather up many bags of garbage, really shows more reasons for such “Protection”.
Many people, from distant parts, traveling through the Okanagan - Similkameen, ask us “What are these “Signs” “ No National Park”. They are, invariably, somewhat upset, obviously believing, as do park supporters that a National Park honours the land and our cultural heritage and gives more resources to protect our treasured landscapes and wildlife habitat. Some would have supporters post “YES Signs”. As supporters, we are somewhat opposed to even further desecration and stand off positions, but we would dearly love that those many people, who DO support a national park, to understand that we are STILL working towards solutions. The proposed “flooding” of the Similkameen, only strengthens our determination that such destructive changes must NOT be allowed! I say,“YES” for a National Park and I hope that we can communicate and people will listen to the facts that a National Park will be a GOOD thing!
