BC Government Proposes Protections for Endangered Douglas Fir forests on Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast
Thursday, January 07, 2010
The Wilderness Committee is calling on its supporters to speak up for the protection of key endangered coastal Douglas fir forests on scarce Crown Lands on Eastern Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.
The BC Ministry of Forests and Range is proposing to protect five candidate areas under a Land Use Order through the Integrated Land Management Bureau. For more information on these forest areas see our backgrounder on what we call the five Home Town Forests.
These five Home Town Forests are all part of the Coastal Douglas fir ecosystem. (For more information on this beautiful but endangered region of southwest British Columbia click here).
For further information, see our news release.
Please send your comments NOW to Bill Zinovich, of the Integrated Land Management Bureau, at their West Coast Service Center, Suite 142, 2080 Labieux Road, Nanaimo, BC, V9T 6J9 or fax 250-751-7081, or email bill.zinovich@gov.bc.ca by February 15, 2010. To write a letter NOW on-line, click here.
Let the BC government know how you feel about seeing all five of these Home Town Forests granted full protected area status - as well as other endangered forests in the Coastal Douglas fir ecosystem.
