British Columbia Pipeline Protest

Anti-oil pipeline protesters will descend on the offices of provincial politicians around British Columbia today.
The rallies are part of the Defend Our Coast day of action, an event meant to raise concerns in at least 62 communities about plans by Enbridge and Kinder Morgan.Kinder Morgan wants to expand its pipeline, which moves oil from Alberta to the West Coast via the Trans Mountain network.
Enbridge plans to build an 11-hundred-kilometre dual pipeline from Alberta to the B-C coast that would carry bitumen for shipment overseas while pumping condensate back to Alberta.
Ben West of the Western Canada Wilderness Committee says there's a simple idea behind the protests -- that the pipelines are a bad idea.
He says while the provincial government have been ratcheting up their rhetoric against the Northern Gateway Pipeline project, Liberal politicians have not gone far enough.
West says protesters also want to pressure N-D-P Leader Adrian Dix to oppose the Kinder Morgan project, just like he's taken a stand against Enbridge.
Most events are slated for noon but the demonstration in Prince George is planned for 5 p-m and protesters will gather outside Environment Minister Terry Lake's Kamloops constituency office at 3:30 p-m.
