Delegation to Oppose Coal Export Plans at Port Metro Vancouver Offices

VANCOUVER – The Wilderness Committee will be joining Lower Mainland residents and environmental allies on Thursday for a procession and rally outside Port Metro Vancouver’s waterfront offices, to express opposition and concern over plans for a new coal export facility at Fraser Surrey Docks.

WHAT:  The Wilderness Committee, along with Voters Taking Action on Climate Change (VTACC) and the Dogwood Initiative, are calling for a full public hearing process regarding the Fraser Surrey Docks Direct Coal Transfer Facility, due to the project’s impacts on climate change, public health, and the local environment. Hundreds of residents in the region have written letters in opposition to the proposed expansion of coal shipping from Metro Vancouver ports.
