Film Screening and Panel Discussion on Forest Conservation
This Friday, join me for a screening of Richard Boyce’s Rainforest: The Limit of Splendour. This award-winning film documents the shocking contrast between industrial logging sites and the intact ancient rainforests on Vancouver Island.
Inspired by Kwaxsistalla, a Kwakwaka’wakw chief, Richard visits standing forests and clearcuts from the Walbran to the Klashkish Valley. This film highlights the serious flaws in this industry and the need for more forest protection and a different forestry model in BC.
Where? David Lam auditorium at UVic (MACA144)
When? Friday, January 11 - 7:00 pm
Suggested $10 donation with proceeds to Camas Books and the filmmaker.
After the film, we invite the audience to take part in a panel discussion on forest policy and the forest conservation movement in BC. The panel will consist of Richard Boyce, myself, and a representative from the grassroots Cortes Island anti-clearcut movement (currently involved in disputes/blockades with logging giant Island Timberlands).
Richard’s film is incredibly powerful, and I’m anticipating a really informative discussion with the audience and panel members afterwards. This will be great evening for anyone interested in the fight to save our remaining old growth, ban raw log exports, or double Vancouver Island’s protected areas.
I hope to see you Friday!
