Fraser Valley Groups Host Maple Ridge Pipeline Town Hall Meeting
Media Advisory - November 7, 2012
MAPLE RIDGE, BC – This evening, the Fraser Valley Pipeline Watch group will be hosting a town hall meeting in Maple Ridge to discuss potential impacts of the proposed Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline expansion, and to raise awareness about the project at a local level.
WHAT: Panelists will be providing information on the proposed pipeline, which is planned to be built just across the Fraser River from Maple Ridge. Many of the group’s volunteers are concerned about the specific negative impacts a pipeline or tanker spill could have on the Fraser River, as well as more general concerns around increased tar sands development and oil exports. The town hall meeting will also address positive steps that governments could take to encourage less climate-damaging energy sources and industries. After the presentations, audience members will have a chance to ask questions.
WHO: Confirmed speakers include…
- Chief Ed Pierre, Katzie First Nation
- Rueben George, Tsleil-Waututh First Nation
- Jack Emberly, local author and environmentalist
- Sven Biggs, Tanker Free BC
- Michael Hale , PIPE UP Network

The event is being hosted by the Fraser Valley Pipeline Watch with additional support from the Wilderness Committee, PIPE UP Network, Tanker Free BC, the Katzie First Nation and Golden Ears United Church.
