MAY 22 FORUM: How Can We Save the BC Mountain Caribou?

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Wilderness Committee media

Please attend this free forum on May 22 to explore solutions for saving this endangered species.

Just a few decades ago, caribou were found across North America. Today many herds are struggling for survival.

In the BC inland temperate rainforest the worlds only mountain caribou now number just 1,900 – down from 2,400 a decade ago.

Right now, the BC government is considering whether or not to protect six million hectares of mountain caribou habitat, including some the most important old growth forests in BC.

In BC, mountain caribou are our canary in the coal mine. We depend upon the inland rainforest for clean air and water, carbon storage, recreational opportunities, and sustainable economies.
