Energetic City - Fort St John

Mayor of Hudson’s Hope, Gwen Johansson has now called on Premier Christy Clark to order B.C. Hydro to stop work on the proposed Site C Dam pending a final investment decision by the Provincial Cabinet.

Late last Friday, Hydro provided draft environmental plans to Hudson’s Hope and other local governments in anticipation of site preparation and project construction, beginning in 90 days, or as early as January 15.

Mayor Johansson argues that makes a mockery of the cabinet approval process, and calls into question the repeated public assurances by Energy Minister, Bill Bennett that building Site C is not a done deal.

There are reports the Liberal Cabinet is split on whether to proceed with the third dam on the Peace, and the Mayor contends Hydro is at the very least, being fiscally irresponsible by running up project costs before the cabinet decision is announced.

She also suggests it’s as if Hydro is running up the project costs in an attempt to pressure cabinet into dam approval before the true cost to ratepayers is actually known.
