Oil spill clean-up mock ‘job fair’ greets Kinder Morgan president

Friday, February 24, 2012

What: Mock ‘Job Fair’ for oil spill clean-up

When: 10:30am, Friday, February 24, 2012

Where: In front of the Vancouver Convention Centre (1055 Canada Place).

Who: Ben West of the Wilderness Committee and Stephanie Goodwin of Greenpeace will be available for comment.

Why: Just this week, Kinder Morgan confirmed plans to more than double the capacity of their Tar Sands pipeline which runs from Alberta to terminal in Burnaby. The President of Kinder Morgan Canada, Ian Anderson, will be speaking Friday at a business conference at Canada Place.

“We have decided to be pro-active and hold a mock ‘job fair’ recruiting people with the skills it takes to clean up a serious oil spill,” said Ben West, Healthy Communities Campaigner for the Wilderness Committee.

“Here we are in the middle of a a massive public outcry around the Enbridge pipeline proposal and meanwhile Kinder Morgan is trying to quietly move ahead with their own disastrous project that would bring huge risks right into Burrard Inlet. We are not going to let them do this behind closed doors" said West.
