Pipeline concerns in focus
Castanet
The public is being invited to discuss a proposed pipeline that would pass through Kamloops.
Kinder Morgan's proposed TransMountain pipeline would transport diluted bitumen from the Alberta oilsands to a marine terminal in Burnaby. The proposed route would cross the Thompson River and pass through Kamloops.
Thompson Rivers University will host the discussion on March 18 so residents can ask questions and raise concerns about the proposed pipeline project.
The project is currently in the midst of an environmental review led by the National Energy Board, and hearings are set to begin this fall.
Communities along the route have expressed concerns about the impact of potential leaks and oil spills – particularly in areas where the pipeline would put salmon-bearing rivers and streams at risk.
Speakers will include Eoin Madden of the Wilderness Committee and Sven Biggs with ForestEthics Advocacy. Other speakers are to be announced.
The free event is co-hosted by the Wilderness Committee and ForestEthics Advocacy.
WHEN: March 18, 7-10 p.m.
WHERE: Clocktower Theatre, Room CT200, Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops
