Pipeline Critics to Provide Balance at Kinder Morgan Information Sessions

Media Advisory - November 13, 2012

VANCOUVER – As pipeline giant Kinder Morgan continues its series of "public information sessions" in Vancouver, environmentalists and allies are calling the company out on the marked absence of detailed maps and information available to residents. Promoting these events as "information sessions" is misleading given this lack of detailed information.

WHAT: Opponents of the proposed Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline expansion will be gathering outside the company's scheduled information sessions in East Vancouver, Downtown Vancouver, and West Point Grey. Representatives from local groups will be there to speak to residents, offering hard facts and a balanced picture of the risks associated with the project.

WHY: Instead of providing meaningful dialogue about their controversial pipeline proposal, these sessions are being used by Kinder Morgan as a sort of “focus group” to promote the project and gauge public opinion. One local resident described the event as similar to a "condo sales centre". So far, no community-level maps of the pipeline route have been made available. Citizens—whose homes, shorelines and communities could be at risk due to this project—deserve the real facts, as well as an opportunity to engage in a relevant discussion.

WHO: Representatives from the Wilderness Committee, Tanker Free BC and ForestEthics, joined by supporters and members of the public.
