Rally Ahead of Nopiming Provincial Park Open House
Media Advisory
WINNIPEG – Wilderness Committee representatives will join concerned citizens tomorrow to rally for the protection of Manitoba’s Nopiming Provincial Park, ahead of an open house hosted by the provincial government regarding the future of the park.
WHY: The Manitoba government has released a draft plan for Nopiming Provincial Park, and is currently seeking public input. While the Wilderness Committee applauds the government’s recommendation to control ATV access and increase the amount of protected area in the park, there are still serious concerns – including the fact that the draft plan continues to enshrine industrial mining as an accepted activity in the park. This event was organized to send a strong message to the provincial government that Manitobans care about park protection and want to see a ban on mining in provincial parks.
Participants will gather with signs and banners to rally their voices at the busy northwest corner of Kenaston Boulevard and Sterling Lyon Parkway, before walking together to the open house for 6:00 p.m. The open house is being held in the boardroom at Cabela’s store, 580 Sterling Lyon Parkway.
