Salt Spring Island Town Hall to Illustrate Concerns over Liquefied Fracked Gas in BC
Media Advisory - February 27, 2014
First in a series of community events around Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland
SALT SPRING ISLAND, BC – Environmental groups from the north and south of the province are teaming up this week to host a series of town hall meetings to address concerns over BC’s rush to expand hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and export liquefied natural gas (LNG).
WHAT: This free community-focused event hosted by the Wilderness Committee and Skeena Watershed Conservation Coalition will introduce Salt Spring Island residents to the risks and impacts associated with an LNG boom in BC – shining the spotlight on the controversial method of gas extraction known as fracking. As British Columbia’s government continues to promote this industry – promising long-term “prosperity” for the province – it’s a critical time to raise awareness about the environmental implications of ramping up exports of liquefied FRACKED gas.
This is the first stop on a three-part community tour, with additional town hall meetings to follow in Sidney (Sat. Mar. 1) and Vancouver (Tues. Mar. 4).
WHEN: Friday, February 28, 2014
2:00 p.m.
WHERE: All Saints by the Sea Church
