Some TLC for Manitoba's Busiest Portages

Monday, July 30, 2012

The Wilderness Committee is pleased to announce it is organizing a weekend volunteer work party in Nopiming Provincial Park in partnership with Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship.

The Bird River canoe route, from Tulabi Lake into Elbow Lake and beyond, is one of the most popular canoe routes in Manitoba. Unfortunately, the high volume of canoeists in the area is causing rapid deterioration of the portage trails. In an effort to lessen human impact and encourage more Manitobans to explore the region firsthand, the Wilderness Committee is organizing its first ever Park TLC trip.

On the weekend of August 10-12, a volunteer work party will camp out at Tulabi Lake in Nopiming Provincial Park, and make daily trips up the Bird River to improve the portage trails at the first two portages. Positive attitude and reasonable fitness are all that are required. Transportation from Winnipeg, food and safety equipment are all provided.
