There’s something fishy about Stephen Harper

Want to know more? Have a read of our brand new report Saving BC’s Wild Salmon. Learn how industrial salmon farms are putting Canada’s wild Pacific salmon runs at risk of collapsing. The recent decline of sockeye salmon numbers in the Fraser River, the largest sockeye-producing river in the world, is particularly shocking. Up to 13 million sockeye were expected to return to the Fraser River and its tributaries in 2009, but only 1.3 million made the journey, a decrease of 90%. Wild salmon face many threats- ocean-based over-fishing, climate change, stream and habitat destruction caused by logging- but of these threats, the easiest to tackle immediately is salmon farming.
Recently the government of Canada has taken over responsibility for permitting salmon farms from the BC government. Our federal government must take action to make sure wild pacific salmon don’t go the way of Atlantic cod.
Ready to take action? If after checking out the report you want to do more, please think about taking some newspapers to distribute in your community. Contact me at sven@wildernesscommittee.org and let us know how many copies you would like and your mailing address, so we will get them in the mail to you ASAP. Then on your next visit to your local coffee shop, library or doctors office, help get the word out, by just drop off a couple copies.
With your help we can let Stephen Harper and the federal government know that we will not let our pacific wild salmon go down with out a fight.
Thank You
