Time to protect the Salish Sea from fossil fuel expansion!
We're very excited to announce a new campaign being launched by the Wilderness Committee and our partners, the Georgia Strait Alliance. It’s a campaign dedicated to one of the world’s most beautiful and ecologically diverse bodies of water: the Salish Sea.
Stretching all the way from the north end of the Strait of Georgia, past Vancouver and Victoria, to Puget Sound in Washington State, the Salish Sea is a unique coastal environment that supports a huge variety of marine life – not to mention the millions of residents, tourists and businesses who flock here for the region’s stunning landscapes, mild climate and fantastic quality of life.
Right now, the Salish Sea is at risk. Plans to build the new Kinder Morgan tar sands pipeline and increase coal shipments from our ports risk turning the region into a superhighway for fossil fuel exports. If these projects go ahead, the resulting carbon emissions from BC exports will turn our province from a green leader into a global climate change export hub. On top of that, the Salish Sea faces the threat of a catastrophic oil spill that could devastate the marine environment, coastal communities and BC’s entire economy.
As part of the campaign, we’re launching a brand new website – SalishSeaAction.org – dedicated to protecting this ecological gem from fossil fuel export projects. We’re asking you to join us and demand that decision-makers start taking climate change seriously, and let them know that the Salish Sea is off limits to carbon-pushers like Kinder Morgan and Big Coal.
Click here to visit the website and take action today!
In addition to the website, we’ve also produced a new 5-minute video explaining how projects like new coal shipping facilities and the Kinder Morgan pipeline risk turning the Salish Sea into a global carbon corridor. Please check out this important video, and help us spread the word by sharing it with your friends and family!
I look forward to touching base with you as this new and exciting campaign develops over the coming months. Thanks for your continued support, and for speaking up to keep the Salish Sea healthy and beautiful!
