A cross-city bicycle ride is planned in Vancouver on Saturday, September 24, as part of an international day of action on climate change.

The local “Momentum for Change” event is being organized by the Wilderness Committee and Youth For Climate Justice Now.

The cycling route begins at Creekside Community Recreation Centre near Science World, continues through downtown Vancouver, and ends at Second Beach in Stanley Park. The ride starts at 2 p.m.

“To break our society’s addiction to oil we need to break our automobile dependence, and transition to bikes and more effective and affordable public transit,” reads a statement from organizers.

A public forum on “transportation alternatives” and other activities are also scheduled at Creekside Community Recreation Centre starting at noon.

The Vancouver event is being held in conjunction with an international “Moving Planet” day of action on climate change organized by the group 350.org. Related events are planned in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, and the United States.
