Video: Its time to end logging in Algonquin Park

Thursday, February 20, 2020

When most people think of Algonquin Provincial Park, images of sparkling lakes, tall trees and glimpses of wildlife come to mind. Yet 65 per cent of Algonquin is open to commercial logging, road construction and gravel extraction, putting biodiversity, carbon storage and the protection of nature at risk. The parks management plan for Algonquin is 2 YEARS overdue. The new plan for Algonquin needs to align with science, Indigenous stewardship knowledge, nature-based climate solutions and public expectations. To many, the word “park” implies the highest level of ecological conservation, that’s why logging and other industrial activities are outlawed in all other parks. The time has come to finally ban logging in Algonquin Provincial Park!
