A BC environmental group says the ball is in the Premier's court. This, after the NDP declared it would launch a Provincial environmental assessment of Northern Gateway if elected next year.

Ben West with the Wilderness Committee says BC should have taken control of the process as soon as it was clear the Federal assessment wouldn't have teeth, "What we're hoping is that this is a different kind of environmental assessment. The Environmental Assessment Office in BC has been cut by about 50% since 2001, but it is a mechanism that can be used by the Provincial Government to stop a project if they don't like it."

West says the Premier must follow suit and listen to the overwhelming chorus of people speaking out against Enbridge's 6-billion-dollar project.
