
Mariwan (he/him) currently resides in Vancouver on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and səlilwətaɬ territories.
Mariwan is the Director of Finance and Operations at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives – BC Office. He manages the day-to-day operations and shares responsibility for financial and administrative oversight of major projects. He holds a degree in civil engineering. He arrived in Canada as a political refugee from Southern Kurdistan (Northeast Iraq) in the late nineties and continued his activism as his boots hit the ground. He joined the anti-sanctions and anti-occupation movement in Vancouver and continues to be involved in antiwar and anti-imperialism projects locally and globally. In recent years, he has been involved in organizing support for the revolutionary feminist democratic project in Rojava (Northeast Syria), within the Kurdish-Canadian and larger Canadian communities. He does so with an understanding of the intersectionality of struggles for social & environmental justice, self-determination and liberation.
