Carmanah - World's tallest Sitka spruce deserve protection
Friday, July 15, 1988
This is a 1988 Wilderness Committee education report about the campaign to protect the Carmanah Valley from plans by MacMillan Boedel to log the area. The report describes a court case that MacMillan Bloedel had brought against the Wilderness Committee's trail building. We won that case and completed a hiking trail through groves of Canada's tallest trees.
The lower Carmanah Valley was protected in 1990 within the Carmanah Pacific Provincial Park - then in 1994 the entire valley was protected in an enlarged park now named the Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park. See our History and Achievements page.
