Create the Caren Range Provincial Park
Thursday, February 15, 1996
This is a 1996 Wilderness Committee education report that calls for the entire 8,000 hectare Caren Range on the Sunshine Coast to be protected. The report describes how the Lower Mainland protected area process put an upper-limit cap on how much wilderness that could be protected - so some conservation groups were calling for only 3,000 hectares of the Caren Range to be protected. Later that same year - 1996 - the BC government went with the smaller plan and only designated about 3,000 hectares of the Caren Range as the Spipiyus Provincial Park.
