Help the Penan save the Borneo Rainforest
This is a 1990 Wilderness Committee education report about the campaign to protect the rainforest home of Malaysia's Penan people. The report announces a Penan tour of various countries seeking support for rainforest protection in Malaysia and the release of a new book entitled: Penan - Voices for the rainforest.
Since 1990 the government of Malaysia has continued to refuse to recognize the Penan people's right to determine the future of their rainforest lands. Never-the-less the Penan continue to try and protect their dwindling forest. Their lastest initiative is the Penan Peace Park, which has been designated by the Penan people. Sadly, the government of Malaysia does not recognize this tribal park and logging pressure continues.
