Tsitika - Your voice needed Now!
Friday, December 07, 1990
This is a 1990 Wilderness Committee education report about the campaign to preserve the Lower Tsitika Valley from being logged. The report described how logging had recently started within the proposed protected area and that resistance by environmentlaists and First Nations was strong.
Eventually the logging company, MacMillan Bloedel, did succeed in logging one cutblock - block 101. There were protests and blockades during the period of logging. Then in 1994 with the designation of the Lower Tsitika River Provincial Park the area was finally protected from further logging damage. See our History and Achievements page.
