Forest Campaigner
Tobyn posing in front of a hot springs. End of image description.

Tobyn (they/them) currently resides on Vancouver Island on unceded lək̓ʷəŋən Territory.

As the Forest Campaigner, Tobyn’s work focuses on fighting threats facing old growth and new forests in BC. They advocate for healthy, functional and well-established forest ecosystems (which should cover around 60% of the province). Originally from Treaty Seven territory in Alberta, they wrote a book to identify local bumble bees and their graduate thesis was on the ecology of insects. Working for the Wilderness Committee allows Tobyn to promote the maintenance and preservation of healthy ecosystems as backed by science. Before the Wilderness Committee, they gained various experiences working in wildlife medicine, agroecosystem research and 2SLGBTQ+ rights advocacy, but they ultimately bring camp counsellor vibes into all their work. In their free time, Tobyn skateboards, canoes and gardens for native pollinators.
