A public forum and panel discussion on the Energy East pipeline

The proposed Energy East pipeline project is here. The federal government is asking for members of the public to provide input. The city of Winnipeg is reviewing the plan. The province of Manitoba is applying to be an intervenor in National Energy Board (NEB) hearings.

But what do you actually know about the pipeline proposal? 

We know that more than a million barrels of diluted bitumen will cross our province each day, if the project is approved. But what does that mean for us?

There are so many questions:

• What does the Energy East pipeline proposal mean for Manitoba? Or for Winnipeg?
• What are the economics of the proposal for Manitoba?
• Has the Indigenous perspective on the Energy East pipeline been considered?
• What sort of risks does the pipeline proposal hold for Winnipeg?
• What benefits does the Energy East proposal bring to the province?
• And what will the Energy East proposal mean for the climate?

This is a huge project. Winnipeggers and Manitobans need to know more about this mammoth undertaking. Along with Climate Change Connection, the Manitoba Eco-Network, and the University of Winnipeg, we are hosting a public panel discussion that aims to answer the above questions, and many more.

  Associate Professor in Department of Geography, University of Winnipeg

The panel discussion will be moderated by Mary Agnes Welch, Public Policy Reporter at the Winnipeg Free Press.
